Scan's MD, Justin Hawes, was elected Chairperson of the Event Greening Forum at its recent AGM.
In 2008 Justin and sustainability consultant, Grace Stead of Steadfast Greening, founded the Event Greening Forum (EGF). The EGF functioned informally for a few years, with a number of industry players volunteering their time and passion to develop the organisation and promote awareness of event greening.
Last year, Grace and Justin registered the EGF as a Section 21 Company, and gained the support of eight associations as Founding Members. Their efforts have culminated in the EGF opening membership to the public, and hosting its first official AGM. (Read more about this here.)
Says Justin: "A few years ago I recognised that there was a lack of interest in promoting sustainability in our industry, and that this was a huge problem given how 'ungreen' many standard industry practices are. I'm fortunate to have met Grace, who shared my view and had the greening know-how."
Scan's Marketing Manager, Pippa Walker, has also become involved in the EGF and was elected onto the Management Committee as Secretariat. She says: "Scan's commitment to greening runs deeper than what we can do internally, and we are excited to have an opportunity to help promote best practice throughout our industry. The Event Greening Forum is a great vehicle for this kind of change, and we feel positive about what we can achieve in the near future."
This is Justin's second term as Chairperson, having shared the role as Co-Chair with Grace last year.
