The 2013 Markex Event comprises of a general section for exhibits of promotional and marketing goods that target the end user. The Markex World of Events boasts exhibitors from across every special events industry and sector of promotions and marketing that include promotional gifts, event planners and management, corporate clothing, exhibition stand builders and designers such as Scan Display, design and décor, packaging and printing, print and electronic media, incentive travel, outdoor promotions and advertising, stage lighting and audio visual companies to professional speakers and much more.
The main focus on this event is to attract international and local exhibitors as well as visitors forming a network across industry associations. The way of standing out at the Markex Event and having a really great impact on your exhibition, it to communicate and uncover a way in which your business is completely different from others and also says it does what it says. You have got to stake your claim to fame on a simple idea and project it to your prospective customers.
Offer Something Unique and Interesting at the Markex Event
For example if you are providing a customized programming system for computers which use programmed languages to create applications for businesses, this can be a hard concept to explain and can also create difficulty when trying to compare other such products from various companies. The way to differentiate your product and a way of standing out at the Markex World of Events is to offer a unique training program which is the major key in defining that there is no other product available like yours.
Key aspects such as the above mentioned will not only make you stand out from the rest but will also open many prospective doors. There are several ways in which you can claim a tried and tested point of difference. You need to be able to offer a product that is trendy and so unique that your business becomes well known for that specific product.
Extend Your Products and Services to People
Another way to stand out is to extend your product by offering a valuable unique service which in turn will add much more value to the product and become more useful to the client. Another powerful tool that will make your business stand out is creating a unique niche market whereby you carve out an industry that will become a powerful player serving a specific niche market.
You can also offer clients a 100 percent refund incentive if they in turn refer not less than four or more clients to you. By giving your service a powerful name and offering a unique service you’ll be standing out at the Markex Event and will not have to worry about your competitors.

Promoting at big exhibitions and conferences is a great way to get your product or brand out there – and Markex is an event not to be missed.
Exhibitors have the opportunity to man a stand and market their brand making use of the latest marketing material, like banners, podiums and stands. With the thousands that attend every year, it is a great way to grow your brand recognition, and get valuable product and competitor information.
What Is Markex?
For 26 years Markex has been a premier exhibition event in South Africa. Located at the Sandton Convention Centre, it specialises in sellers (as well as buyers) of corporate clothing, conference and exhibition venues and solutions, promotional gifts, design and décor as well as event planners and management.
2011 saw over 10,000 visitors attend the event. This is the ideal playground for business owners and entrepreneurs to take advantage of a captive audience. Exhibitions have a strong influence on buying decisions and result in many successful business deals and transactions.
Some of the main attractions of the exhibition include: The annual Road show of the Loerie Awards; USB Speakers Pavilion presenting top business speakers; Pendoring Awards promoting the best in Afrikaans advertising; and the Trade Section where wholesalers and resellers get a personalised setting to conduct business.
Get the Most Out Of Your Marketing
When at a trade show of exhibition you’ll be exposed to a lot of traffic. It’s key to attract them and convert that traffic into sales. Here are some pointers:
- Have Giveaways – Nothing pulls in a crowd like free stuff. Have giveaways or samples of your product. Once you attract the crowd, get them interested and make the sale. Be prepared to handle volume and don’t let any big fish get away.
- Competitions – Having a competition or lucky draw is always a good incentive for people to be interested in your booth. With every purchase give them an entry to a big draw prize. It keeps people interested and incentivises sales.
- Stand Out – Make sure your booth stands out from the rest. Have eye-catching banners and backdrops to attract the consumer. A well situated podium will let them know you’re available to answer questions.
When attending a trade exhibition like Markex, do the research and put in the effort to maximise your returns. It’s a golden opportunity to get your brand or product out there.

When it comes to the exhibition medium, Scan Display puts its money where its mouth is, exhibiting at eight annual shows and conferences. Over the past decade the company has generated good business and grown its brand at local and international expos. The medium’s consistent return on investment has resulted in Scan allocating approximately forty-percent of its annual marketing budget to exhibitions.
Scan Display recently exhibited at Markex Cape for the third time since the marketing show’s launch in the Western Cape. Scan has successfully supported the Markex shows for many years, and its stands at the shows have been acknowledged with numerous organiser awards.
Gary Van Der Watt, Director of Scan’s CT branch, says that although this year’s Markex Cape may have felt smaller than the last one, the quality of visitors and the commitment from exhibitors was evident.
Van Der Watt adds: “The Scan stand was prominently positioned and well received by both existing and new clients. In an environment that demands innovation, a tactile quality and an interactive platform, Scan again demonstrated its ability to satisfy the brief.”
Other local shows which Scan supports are: Markex Jhb and KZN; the annual SAACI conference; Design Indaba Expo; Woodpro; and the Human Resources Development Africa show. Scan uses The Exhibiting Show in London and the International Federation of Exhibition & Event Services’ annual conference as a platform to showcase its services to the global market.

Scan Display’s stand was named Runner Up in the Medium Stand category at Markex & World of Events, held at the Sandton Convention Centre from 10 to 12 June 2008. The latest win means that the exhibition and display specialist has won an award at Markex Jhb for the last five years.
This year’s stand was smaller than previous years’. However, Scan spent more per square metre and achieved a better return on its investment, drawing visitors to the stand and generating an excellent database of leads from the show.
Scan launched its new rolled carpeting at Markex, using the product on the floor and walls of its stand. The carpet comes in large rolls and is cut on site to fit the space, ensuring a superior finish to the alternative carpet tiles.
Scan extended its rolled carpeting from the stand into the exhibition hall aisles to make the stand feel bigger than it was. It also used a high roof to create a feeling of space on the stand.
